About Me...

Hi, I'm Simon Marshall an experienced web designer from Oldham, Manchester. By day I'm a senior web designer at a leading e-commerce company boasting clients including M&S, House of Fraser, Boots, Next and Debenhams. My role is currently driven by improving conversion and typically involves wireframing, designing and front end development.

I consider myself to be creative, yet technical enough to turn concepts and designs into working solutions, enjoying the full lifecycle of projects.

By night and in my spare time I like to work on other web design projects (view above), read, watch films, listen to music and travel.

Currently listening to Maximo Park. Heaton Park 23rd July should be good...

  • Design

5 years studying art and design and a Masters in Creative Technology gave me a good grounding in visual communication. Having started off with an interest in illustration I now mostly design for web, but am versatile enough to work on other media when required including offline material. I have worked with B&D Print who do an excellent job whenever I need my designs printing.

  • Code

Much of my career has been spent as an in house web designer, working on front end development within a number of different industries. With the skills to hand code well written semantic code I can turn my designs into optimised SEO friendly websites. I code websites with the latest technologies and am currently utilising the benefits of HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery to create richer user experiences.

  • Experience

I have now been working on the web for 12 years, starting my first web position in 1999 after completion of my Masters. Since then I have seen many trends come and go, but learnt well from the good companies and collegues I have worked with. I believe the skills and experience I have aquired during this time position me well for the exciting future ahead within digital design.

Cool Tshirt Design

I created this Tshirt blog out of a love for cool tshirt design but also as a project to learn Wordpress. As well as designing the theme and coding the html, I also worked on the SEO of the site with visitors averaging between 1500 - 2000 at present. I aim to update the posts more regularly and include some interviews with tshirt designers. Any cool tshirts you can recommend?

Automarque

Automarque

Another project built with a friend and colleague, this was designed for Liverpool based company Automarque. My role was to provide both the look and feel of the website and to ensure the application was styled in a consistent manner throughout. Software used was Visual Studio where I took the raw unstyled development and implemented the design concepts with css.

English Premier League Forum

English Premier League Forum

Logo and design concept created for a new football forum. All commmunication done online this project came about after the launch of my previous design portfolio in 2009. After the initial concept was rejected we started again with a clearer idea of where the design direction was heading. The result satisified the clients overall objectives, achieving a style that was radically different from his portfolio of other forums with a loose sketchy look and feel.
